Well, I got to Bury Hill Lakes at 7.30am yesterday (Sunday) and found that it was swarming with people dressed in camo green. I thought it was an army exercise! It was mental, so I decided to go to Henfold Lakes about 3 miles down the road as I wanted a less busy area to try out my fishing. It seemed a lot quieter, which suited me. I followed the advice I had read on the forum and plumbed my chosen swim and adjusted my float. I was fishing light 4lb main and 2.5 hooklength. The only problem was groundbait is banned there so I was just fishing with my red maggots, sweetcorn and bread. It was quite a while before I got any bites, I missed a couple, but in the end caught three roach and 1 crucian carp about a pound. No photos, but I am going to return this week so hope that I catch again and I'll take the camera. Anyway, it WAS everything I hoped for these fish really fight on light tackle, a real bend in my rod I loved it!

Plenty of bream mate , again not massive sizes though . Check with them with regards to bait bans as they used to be quite restrictive (no boilies/groundbait) but this may have changed . I think they may have relaxed the groundbait rule . Take plenty of corn . red and yellow ,lots of worms and some small swimstim green pellets . If the carp/bream aren't playing nicely go to lake 4 and cross the bridge to the swim that lets you fish the big bay and have a crack at the crucians and perch . Oh yeah , for the carp/bream use pva stocking with corn/ pellets . Just remember to dust it off in groundbait so it doesn't melt your pva!

Hi Everyone!

After my first fishing experience last year, and soon to have only my second days fishing this Saturday, I thought I'd join this site as it looks like I could learn a lot from everyone here!

I went with a couple of friends to a place called "Fishers" (or something like that) in Crawley, West Sussex last year and was hooked from then on! (Pun intended - albeit a bad one!)

I caught a tench and a 2-3 pound carp which I was so pleased with as i've heard they're great fun! And this one was!

Anyone got any good advice or tips for a newbie to Coarse fishing?

I'm going to Henfold lakes, near dorking Surrey this saturday by the way!
